About abovetheboxscore
Above the Box Score: basketball numbers with context.
Above the Box Score is a basketball analysis site connecting NBA stats, shot profiles, team context and available film. The goal is to help you understand what happened on court, beyond a single box-score line.
What you can explore
Use player leaderboards to compare production, shot-type analysis to examine how players score, and team pages for roster and shooting context. The NBA stats guide explains where to start and how to compare samples.
Data sources and sample coverage
The site's library uses NBA play-by-play and statistical feeds. Shooting and possession analysis is built from recorded events; some metrics also use box-score or tracking data. Different pages can therefore have different coverage.
Check the season, competition, game count and qualification labels on the page you are reading. Event counts in a filtered library are not automatically official full-season totals. A player's historical team label can also depend on the selected season.
How to interpret the analysis
- Shooting: compare attempt volume, location, shot type and efficiency together. Small samples can be noisy.
- Lineups and on/off: results describe team performance in those minutes. They reflect teammates, opponents and role as well as the player.
- Film: clip coverage varies by game and source. Statistics can remain available even when video is unavailable.
- Visual coverage labels: an AI suggestion and a reviewed label are different states. Use the review status shown with the play.
Report a problem
Use the Feedback button in the interactive app to report an incorrect number, broken clip or confusing label. Include the player, season, page and game or play where possible. For rights concerns, read terms and takedowns; for information about site data handling, read privacy.
